My Early Childhood Professional Blog/Forum for Personal and Professional Communication Related to the Field of Early Childhood
Hello, my name is Larry D. Jackson Sr. I am a father of three children, and married to a wonderful person. I am on a personal journey of social change. I see and hear a lot of unequality towards young children, families, and early education personel.I hope by going to school and obtaining a degree I will be competent and confident enough to change policies and help children, families, and communities with negative social issues.
I find that in the classroom, applying Developmentally Appropriate Practices (DAP) is beneficial for young chidlren, families, and teachers. I believe teaching the whole child results in positive outcomes for the children, their families. and establishes secure relationships.I believe that my "involvement" in the early childhood education field is a priveledge.
I feel that when parents of young children trust me enough to watch and teach their children 6-8 hours a day, 5 days a week, then as a education professional I need to be display competence, coherence, and consistency.I owe them my best. More than ever, I find establishing good relationships with young children and their families meaningful and rewarding in the early childhood field.
My aspirations for the future is to use what I am learning, to advocate for policy change in the early childhood field.
In the photograph below, I am waiting to go to church with my younger sister. While we were waiting, my father took a picture of us. To this day, my father still takes pictures of us when we are together. He also takes pictures for weddings, family reunions, and graduations. This picture relates to my social/emotional development because during this point in time I was gaining social skills. My self-esteem, self-confidence, and self-competence was getting stronger.
My attachment/relationships with my parents gave me a sense of love, support, and caring. I always had a sense of security no matter where I was, or what I did.
Is there anyone who is a foster parent or thinking about being one? I have thought about adopting or becoming a big brother and just wanted to hear from anyone who has the same concern.

Keep up the good work. We definitely need more men in the early childhood profession. You are well on your way to impact the lives of the children and their families that you teach.
