The Comeback Kid Strikes Again

I enjoyed the second week of class so much I started a conversation with one of my co-employees who happens to be 8 weeks pregnant. She and I were talking about child development, and now I feel like a coach to her giving her inspiration and a smile each day we come to work. In reference to our assignment, I really might have to speak to a group she invited me to for "first time parents," about child development. Wow! The timing could not have been better for me to apply what I am learning, in child development to real life. She also gave me some of her sonograms and we both share in the excitement of her first little girl in August 2013.

I chose breastfeeding because I experienced this with my wife and son. It was quite meaningful and I learned many things like why it is so healthy for children and their future. In Ghana, the percentage of neonatal deaths has decreased when mothers have been encouraged to breastfeed within the first 24 hours of life. In the future,I will continue to be an advocate for healthy babies and mothers who breastfeed. If the children are healthier when they start class, we will have a healthier school. This new information will impact my future work by being more sensitive towards children needs for closeness and bonding.

I was all ready to hear my wife screaming,but she was calm and quiet. I spent most of my time across the room in staring in amazement. I forgot the camera,so I was glad to see that my father had his. Before I knew it, the three weeks my wife had been in the hospital didn't bother me anymore, she had just delivered our son. He was itty-bitty weighing only 4lbs8ozs, but what he lacked in weight he made up for with his cry. I was so proud of them both. The women of Peru with their vertical births intrigued me. I definetly prefer a birthing room at a hospital.

The DEC professional development and preparation has an ideal that encourages me to pursue the early childhood field. It says, " we shall continually be aware of issue challenging the field of early childhood special education and advocate for changes in laws, regulations, and policies leading to improved outcomes and services for young children with disabilities and their families." All children should be given a chance and as practitioners, we are their" social change," Professionally, I look forward to the challenges, and hope one day to show my support for the early childhood in the political arena.

Ethical Responsibilities to Children in the NAEYC, reflect my aspirations as a practitioner. One of the ideals in this section was"to advocate for and ensure that all children, including those with special needs, have access to the support services needed to be successful." (NAEYC, 2005) Children need someone to advocate for there needs and follow up on their progress. It is meaningful to do this in the sense, that success will follow for that child if, we the practitioner, follow through. In my professional life, this ideal is very significant, because, after I advocate and ensure that a need has been fulfilled, I will see the success of that child later in life. Ethical Responsibilities to Families in the NAEYC, also reflect my aspirations as a practitioner.
